Centre of Excellence

The Centre of Excellence for Human-Machine Teaming and Artificial Intelligence is a research and development initiative, developed in partnership with the Victorian Government. Accessing leading-edge technology from our global network, we develop new technologies, solutions and innovative products adapted for Australian conditions, and apply them across defence, homeland security and emergency services. Utilising a dedicated workforce, our Centre of Excellence fosters enduring partnerships and collaboration with likeminded small and medium enterprises and academic institutions. Showcasing world-leading disruptive technologies that benefit defence, homeland security and emergency services, our educational collaboration will innovate using artificial intelligence, human-machine teaming and robotics, all using our sovereign research and development (R&D) hub in Melbourne, which will grow both Victoria’s and the nation’s technology footprint.

Key highlights

Emergency Management Command and Control System

Development of an emergency management command and control system based on Elbit Systems’ E-Cix modular framework and open architecture design that integrates existing AI models and technologies providing real-time situational awareness for emergency services.

Search and Rescue Command and Control Solution

Development of an autonomous systems search and rescue command and control solution that utilises rapidly deployed autonomous systems, with sensor technology and AI to support search and rescue missions in challenging Australian conditions.

Mini Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) THOR

High payload and beyond line of sight Mini-UAS THOR that can operate in defence and civilian environmental conditions.

Robotic Autonomous System (RAS)

Enabling multi-sensor and autonomous system command and control, reducing the cognitive load of the user to enable them to focus on the mission at hand. Intrinsic to our RAS are complex machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms.

Current developments

We are teaming up with universities and local industry partners to showcase world-leading disruptive technologies to benefit emergency services, defence and homeland security through the Centre of Excellence in Melbourne. The educational collaboration series kicked off this year and will innovate using AI, human-machine teaming and robotics, all using our sovereign R&D hub that will grow both Victoria’s and the nation’s technology footprint.

Artificial intelligence will allow us to deliver a system that will enable all users – from headquarters through to the emergency responder on the ground – to get the upper hand in emergencies faster than they ever have before; helping to save lives, the environment and property from the impacts of natural disasters.
